What is S&OP and e-logistics ERP?

In an S&OP process, the main objective is to plan production and logistics in such a way that sales requirements are met as well as possible and at the same time the profitability of the company is optimally served. Precisely because sales and operational departments often have conflicting interests (sales wants flexibility, production wants efficiency) it is important to regularly coordinate the planning of these departments at management team level.

S&OP: make good forecasts

A fixed component of S&OP is matching sales forecasts with available stocks and production planning. An important ingredient for this are good forecasts of future demand. There is software on the market that can give an indication based on historical sales figures, but sales staff will also have to make their expectations known based on their feelings and market developments. Also, consideration must be given to assortment management and the phasing in and out of product families.

Production and inventory planning

Another part is translating sales figures into the need for products, components and materials. This results in production and inventory planning that must correspond with the financial budget.
